Getting Bonus Spaces In Dropbox

Unlike some major online storage apps, Dropbox offers the unique feature of giving even free users the chance to get the most out of their Dropbox account by helping them market their product or service. Free users start with only 2GB of capacity, but you can actually get up to 18GB of storage for that one same account as you do some steps or options. The bonus storage will be given in nearly real-time and you can enjoy such free spaces as long as you want.

GETTING STARTED

The very basic method to gaining an extra 250MB for your account is to finish the Getting Started which is available by default every time you open a new account. You don’t have to learn the steps for this, because it is already provided to you in a list once you log-in to your Dropbox. Just in case you happen not to see the list of things to ‘slash off’ every time you complete one task or another, you can simply click on the Get Started tab found on the left of the screen (the one with the cake icon).

The following are the tasks to be completed to get the basic bonus space:

  1. Take the Dropbox tour
  2. Install Dropbox on your computer
  3. Put files in your Dropbox folder
  4. Install Dropbox on other computers you use
  5. Share a folder with friends or colleagues
  6. Invite some friends to join Dropbox
  7. Install Dropbox on your mobile device

REFERRALS

The next method which is the most prominent method on Dropbox for gaining more space is by earning through referrals. This means that each friend of yours that register to Dropbox, follow the Getting Started, and download the desktop app using the link you’ll send, will make you and that friend earn 500MB each! For this method, you’ll earn up to 16GB more adding to your default subscription.

Note: For Pro users, you earn double, i.e., 1GB for each referral for up to 32GB more.

To invite friends:

  1. On your Dropbox site, click on the Get free space! link on the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. On the list of available options of earning extra spaces, click on Refer friends to Dropbox.
  3. Click on the Invite your contacts button if you want to invite all your contacts from the E-mail account you are using for Dropbox. Otherwise, you can enter a specific e-mail address on the field next to the button.
  4. You’ll be notified that the request is sent via a green line of text appearing on top of the screen.

Note that the other end—your friend, the recipient of the invitation—should click on the link you have provided, and he/she must not download the desktop app outside of the link that you have shared. If this happened, the free extra space will not register to both of you.

Alternatively, you can utilize your Facebook and Twitter account in sharing the invitation by copying the link found below the Invite Contacts area, or by clicking on the appropriate links.

To check the status of your invitations and your current amount of bonus space, you can go to Settings > Bonus Space tab.

If your friend wants to open an account but use a different e-mail address, the bonus space will only register if he/she downloads and installs the desktop app right from the link you sent. Any mobile installations outside of the desktop app do not qualify to this feature.

CAMERA UPLOAD

Lately, Dropbox allows simply upload of photos and other media files directly via the AutoPlay feature on desktop, or via an updated Dropbox app on smart devices of today.

For Smart devices, get the latest version of the app, and upon installation, you will be asked for permissions to use data on your device, and whether you want to upload existing photos and videos.

For desktop, you have to make sure that the Autoplay feature is enabled especially for your external devices that you plug in real time. This feature will enlist Dropbox as a direct upload option by clicking on Import Pictures and Videos using Dropbox and all files will be uploaded to the Camera Uploads folder.

Dropbox promises up to 3GB of extra space for this option, but the registry works by giving you extra 500MB for every 500MB of content uploaded.

MOBILE PROMOTION

The latest line-up of Samsung and HTC smartphones, together with a few from other manufacturers, come with a Dropbox app in the factory package. To claim your bonus, all you have to do is to finish the tasks listed in the Get started, and the bonus space should be registered to you immediately afterwards.

OTHER SIMPLE TASKS

Another easy method to earn a petty 125MB is to simply give a few-words positive feedback about Dropbox. To do so, simply go to the same Get free space! link, and click on Why you love Dropbox. Simply type in the reason why and you’re done.

Follow Dropbox by authorizing the app on your Facebook and Twitter, and you get the same amount for each. However, for Twitter, you can also click on Tweet about your love of Dropbox and you get that instant extra 125MB again.
