Motivational Tips: How To Get Your Life Back On Track

There are times when we tend to procrastinate in reaching certain goals, such as quitting smoking or losing weight. It seems we always have reasons for not fulfilling these goals, saying things like “The time is just not right”, or “I’ll just start tomorrow or next week”. The good news is that no matter how far you are from your goals, there are things that you can do to get things going in your life.

Don’t be so hard on yourself

what matters most is you get right back up

It’s human to err and fail. In fact, a lot of us make several attempts before succeeding. This is part of the journey to self-improvement. What matters is that you get right back up each time you fall, and don’t let your failures stop you from aiming for your goal .

Tell yourself that you can do it

you can do it

Thinking positively can give you the energy and push that you need to get things going, while being pessimistic will have you thinking things like “What’s the point?” This will prevent you from getting anything done.

Take the first step

one step at a time

Your first step need not be a big step, but you need to take that step, in order to jump start your journey to success. If you were trying to lose weight, a small first step would be to exchange white bread for whole grain bread. You could also cut down on your intake of fats or sweets.

Set small goals

Small goals are less intimidating, and the thought of accomplishing them is not as taxing as the thought of trying to accomplish big goals. Build on these small goals to reach the ‘grand prize’.

Relax

relax

It may seem counterproductive to relax, but if this is what you need, then go ahead and relax for a day or so. Do not get any work done for a day, but rather, contemplate how you have been living your life, delayed goals and what things you want to change about yourself, and your life. Set this day as a sort of short retreat. Find a quiet place and write down your thoughts in a small notebook, or your iPhone or iPad. Devise a plan for how you intend to change your life. Plan this in terms of small goals.

Make a simple mantra

keep it simple

If you tend to be discouraged easily by some things, come up with a simple mantra that will help keep you going, one that will get you right back on your feet. This mantra can be as simple as “slow down”. Actress Lindsay Lohan had the word “breathe” tattooed on her wrist. Your short mantra should serve as your inspiration in helping you fulfill your ultimate goal, or your life’s work.

Accomplish a goal every year

This can be difficult to do, as a lot of us have plenty of these, but the point is that attempting to accomplish 10 goals all at once can be too intimidating, so it is better to focus on one and accomplish this goal. Set mini-goals, so the task at hand does not discourage you.

What matters to you most

Knowing what matters most to you (hobbies, loved ones, possessions) will allow you to determine which goals to prioritize or work on first. Knowing your priorities will also allow you to skip goals that are not too vital.
It can take years to fulfill some goals, but as they say, better late than never! It is one of two things: you accomplish the goal, or you don’t . Revisit your goals and take the first step in accomplishing one goal today.
