Managing Your Dropbox Account
While Dropbox has always been overlooked to be really simple based on how it looked generally, Dropbox actually is a solid and a fully integrated cloud platform that you can surely rely on. Whether its handling your account information to your card information, you can actually go and customize all these settings without going too far or spending much time. For today, we will learn how much you can go with your account settings in Dropbox.
To change your name (the account holder) as it appears in Dropbox:
- Direct your attention to your name on the top rightmost area of your Dropbox homepage and click on the down-arrow.
- Select Settings. This should lead you to a new page.
- On the row of tabs, select Account Settings.
- Under User info, simply type in or replace your First name or Last name.
- Click Change settings.
You may also click on Cancel changes to undo or ignore any changes you made.
To change your e-mail address:
- Within the same page (or follow steps 1-3), under User info, click on change next to the e-mail address that is available.
- Enter your new e-mail address and re-enter it on the second field. You will be asked for the password.
- Click Update e-mail.
- Click Change settings.
You may also click on Cancel changes to undo or ignore any changes you made.
To connect to Facebook or Twitter:
- Within the same page, under Social, click on Connect with [site].
- You may be asked for your log-in details. Click Okay or Allow to connect.
To disconnect or unlink your account from a Social network or POP3, simply click unlink next to it.
To change your password:
- On the Security tab, under Account sign in, click on Change password.
- Enter your old password, followed by the new password.

Click Change password.
To recover your password via e-mail, you may click go to https://www.dropbox.com/forgot. The message may fall on your Spam folder, so you may want to move the message to your inbox for safety purposes.
To change e-mail notification preferences:
- Go to the Account Settings tab, and check/uncheck items you want to receive on your e-mail.
- Next, go to the Security tab, and under Notifications, check/uncheck your preferences.
To upgrade your account:

Click your name on the top right area of your Dropbox page.
Alternatively, you can go to Settings, and click on the Account Info tab.
- Select Upgrade (the one with the star). This will lead you to a selection of plans.
- Select your plan, and follow onscreen instructions. The next steps will include you entering your credit card details. Alternatively, you can also pay via PayPal by clicking on the link Pay with PayPal.
And finally, to delete your account (if you really thought about it):
- Cancel your subscription first if you are a Pro user.
- Go to Settings again, and click on Account Settings tab.
- Under the category Account preferences, click on the link Delete my account. This will lead you to another page.
- You will be required to enter your password, you must choose a reason from the drop-down menu. If your reason is not listed, you may select other and fill in the extra text area below.
- Click on Delete my account.
Your Dropbox account will immediately be removed from the system, but all your local or downloaded files will not be affected.
