Prevent People From Following You On Twitter

Although you can’t totally stop other users from sending you follower requests on Twitter, you can prevent people following you on Twitter in two easy steps- protect your tweets and ignore request. When you protect your tweet, other users need to send a request to follow you. They won’t be able to access your account without your manual approval. If you receive follower requests, simply ignore requests from unwanted followers.

Steps (Protecting your Tweets):

1. Click the gear icon at the top right portion of your Twitter page.



2. Access your account settings by selecting Setting from the dropdown menu.



3. Locate Security and Privacy on the left side of the page.



4. Scroll down to the middle of the page until you find Tweet privacy. Tick the checkbox beside Protect my tweets.



5. At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.

Steps (Ignoring Follower Requests):

1. On the left side of your homepage, look for follower request notification.
2. Press the notification, deny follower request.

Things you need to know:

1. When your tweets are protected, these tweets become visible only to your followers. Also, these tweets are not searchable on Twitter or Google search.
2. If your tweets were set to public before, then you decided to protect it, these tweets will still remain visible to the public. Only tweets made after changing your setting will be protected.
3. You also have the option to block Twitter users. To do this, access the profile page of the user you want to block. Press the person icon on their profile page. From the dropdown menu, choose Block.
