Removing Third Party Applications On Twitter

Twitter allows third party applications to access your account. These apps are products created outside Twitter.com that is used to access your tweets or tweet data.

For instance, a third party app may be able to read tweets from your timeline, update profile, post tweets for you or see who you follow or even follow new people. Examples of third party apps on Twitter are Hootsuite, Seesmic and Twitter Facebook app.

Remember to only give access to apps with reputable creators. The more third party apps you allow, the the more vulnerable your account becomes.

Review the applications you have connected with and assess whether you recognize it, need it or identified as malicious or not secure. Twitter allows you to revoke access or remove an application any time you want. Here’s a simple tutorial on how to do that.

Steps:

  1. Click the gear icon found at the top-right portion of your Twitter page.
  2. From the dropdown menu, select Settings.
  3. Click Apps found at the left tab of the page.
  4. Review the third party applications listed. Click Revoke Access next to the name of the app you want to remove. You can verify the action if the button changes to Undo Revoke Access.
