Reporting A User On Twitter

Just like on every social media site, Twitter sometimes gets flooded with spammer accounts, which do nothing but self-advertise in a wrong and annoying way, and sometimes harass users. Thousands of Twitter accounts have already experienced cyber-bullying, especially famous celebrities and personalities. With the technology of today, everyone can voice out personal opinions, and sometimes, this is a form of abuse when used wrongly towards others. In this article, we are going to show you ways on how to deal with abusive users and how to block or report them.

Try to ignore the person

If you think that it is nothing serious, you can still simply ignore them and their tweets. This will help you to avoid any Twitter fights and stir up drama. You can also just log off to Twitter for a while if you wish. But if things have gotten serious, you can try the other methods below.

Protect your tweets

A good way to keep your tweets private and away from harassments is to change your tweets’ privacy settings. This means that your tweets will only be visible to those who follow you and whom you allow to see your tweets to. To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. On your home page, click on the gear icon drop-down menu and choose Settings.
  2. GearSettingTwit

  3. Under the Account section, look for Tweet Privacy.
  4. SecPrivTwit

  5. Check ‘Protect my Tweets’ and save.
  6. ProtectTwit

Blocking someone on Twitter

To block someone on Twitter means that they cannot follow you, view your profile and have their mentions of you appear on your mentions tab. They also can’t add you to their Twitter lists. To do this to a person, follow these instructions:

  1. First, go to the Twitter profile of the person that you want to block.
  2. FollowerTwit

  3. Next to the Following or Follow button, click on the drop-down icon.
  4. DropdownFTwit

  5. Select Block @(username) and that’s it! You’ve successfully blocked the person!
  6. BlockUNTwit

Reporting someone on Twitter for Spam

Sometimes, users don’t just cause Internet wars with you or spam you with tweets, sometimes they also repeat these actions coupled with links to harmful / abusive websites, and even try to use the Trending hashtags to gain attention (even if they post unrelated links or self-advertisement). If blocking is not enough and you think that the person on Twitter is just as abusive as ever, you can report his or her behavior on Twitter. To do this, just follow these instructions:

  1. First, go to the Twitter profile of the person that you want to block.
  2. FollowerTwit

  3. Next to the Following or Follow button, click on the drop-down icon.
  4. DropdownFTwit

  5. Select Report @(username) for spam and that’s it! You’ve successfully reported the person!
  6. ReportSpamTwit

Note: when you report a person, it does not automatically mean that the person’s account is already suspended. It only blocks them from following you or sending replies to you. If you are really bent on wanting the person’s account to get deleted, you can manually send a complaint with the steps below.

Send a report to Twitter

If all else fails, you can also manually send a complaint to Twitter. Just go to support.twitter.com/forms and file your stuff. Just make sure you include every bit of information or evidence such as the username, screenshots, and other proof of spam or harassment. There are even categories there which let you report about copyright infringement and online impersonation (of a famous celebrity or artist).

Conclusion

Reporting and / or blocking someone on Twitter are good ways to keep your reputation clean and avoiding mischief on the site. It also protects you from the likes of cyber-bullying, identity fraud and other dirty and unprofessional things.
